I am the Government & Economics teacher in the Arts & Humanities Academy at Berkeley High School. The blogs in this collection are a collaborative project as part of the coursework for approximately 60 BHS seniors as they navigate the murky waters of national politics and finances.

I don’t know this man, but I can tell he truly cares for me and my education and everyone else’s. He cares about peoples health and how there treated. He wants everything to be treated fairly and I love that he is trying to bring change to the USA and the world and he has one more term!

Dear Mr. President,
I didn’t vote.
This matters to me because I have a blood disease and I am always back and forth to doctor appointments and in the hospital. I always hear my mom say that she can not always afford the bill that come with all these visit and it makes me sad. When I get sick, I try to handle it on my own so that we don’t have to go to the hospital. If there was better health care, it would be more help to my mom, a single parent.

Dear Mr. President,

I am not old enough to vote, but if I was, I’d vote for you for many reasons. Education is the main reason and is currently a big part of my life. I’m fifteen years old and my future depends on the education I receive and take advantage of. I believe that you would do your best to give me a good education so I can have a bright future.

Justice and fairness matters to me because of the few tings that are being left out, such as woman’s rights. With Obama being our president, a lot of those uncovered things will be solved

Dear Mr. President,
I’d rather not say how I voted.
Education is important to me because it is focusing on the youth and the future. The more knowledgeable we become as a country is what is going to advance as a whole in our world. Preparing for the future is the best option we have because we cannot know what problems we may face however the more advanced we become can help us fabricate a stronger system to respond to those unknown obstacles.

Dear Mr. President,

I am 17 so I couldn’t vote but if I could have I would have voted for you. Following the events in Connecticut from a few weeks ago I have been thinking a lot about gun control. America has a disproportionately large number of deaths, especially in youth, as a result of gun violence. This shows many things about American culture, but more than that our lack of progress dealing with the problem illustrates something about us. We should be doing whatever we can and trying as many solutions as possible to fix this problem, whether it be more guns or less guns or censoring violent movies and video games or providing people with mental health services.
